Ingredients

  1. 4 slices ciabatta, baguette, or sourdough bread
  2. 8 oz sliced turkey breast
  3. 12 medium tomatoes, sliced
  4. 1 cup fresh basil leaves
  5. 4 slices mozzarella or provolone cheese
  6. 2 tbsp mayonnaise or pesto (optional)
  7. 1 tbsp olive oil (optional)
  8. 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar (optional)
  9. Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

Slice and lightly toast the bread, if desired.

  1. Spread mayonnaise or pesto on one or both bread slices.
  2. Layer sliced turkey evenly over the bottom slice.
  3. Top with cheese, tomato slices, and fresh basil leaves.
  4. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Drizzle with olive oil and balsamic vinegar, if using.
  6. Place the top slice of bread on the sandwich and press gently.
  7. Cut in half and serve immediately.

Notes

  1. Use fresh, ripe tomatoes for the best flavor and texture.
  2. Layer cheese between the bread and tomato to prevent sogginess.
  3. Great with leftover roasted turkey or deli-style slices.
  4. Optional to grill the sandwich panini-style for extra melty cheese.
