Tater Tot Casserole is a comforting and hearty dish made with seasoned ground beef, creamy soup, and topped with crispy tater tots. It’s an easy-to-make, family-friendly meal perfect for busy weeknights or potlucks.

Ingredients

  1. For the crust:
    1 lb ground beef
    1 small onion, diced
1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup (or cream of chicken)
1 can (10.5 oz) cheddar cheese soup
    1/2 cup milk
    1 tsp garlic powder
    1 tsp onion powder
    1/2 tsp salt
    1/2 tsp black pepper
1 bag (32 oz) frozen tater tots
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional, for topping)

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease or line a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray or butter.

  1. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain any excess grease and return the beef to the skillet.
  2. Add the diced onion and cook for 3-4 minutes until softened. Stir in garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Stir in the cream of mushroom soup, cheddar cheese soup, and milk. Mix well until creamy and combined.
  4. Pour the beef mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
  5. Arrange the frozen tater tots in a single layer on top of the beef mixture.
  6. Bake for 30 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden and crispy.
  7. If using shredded cheddar cheese, sprinkle it over the casserole during the last 5 minutes of baking and allow it to melt.
  8. Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy!

Notes

  • For a vegetarian version, use meatless crumbles or mushrooms in place of the ground beef.
  • Add vegetables like peas, corn, or green beans to the beef mixture for extra flavor and nutrients.
  • For a spicier kick, add diced jalapeños or hot sauce to the beef mixture.
