Sweet & Spicy Smoked Little Smokies are bite-sized sausages coated in a sticky barbecue glaze and slowly smoked for rich, bold flavor. Perfect for parties and game days, this easy appetizer delivers sweet heat in every bite.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds cocktail sausages (Little Smokies)
  • 1 1/2 cups barbecue sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat smoker to 225°F (107°C) using mild wood such as apple or cherry.
  2. In a large bowl, mix barbecue sauce, brown sugar, hot sauce, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and red pepper flakes if using.
  3. Add cocktail sausages and toss until evenly coated.
  4. Transfer sausages and sauce to a disposable aluminum pan or smoker-safe dish.
  5. Place on smoker and cook for 1 1/2 to 2 hours, stirring occasionally.
  6. Cook until sausages are heated through and the sauce is thick and glossy.
  7. Remove from smoker and let rest a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Adjust hot sauce and red pepper flakes to control spice level.
  • A splash of apple cider vinegar adds tangy depth.
  • Store refrigerated for up to 4 days and reheat gently before serving.
  • Can be prepared in a slow cooker on low for 2–3 hours if no smoker is available.
  • Freeze leftovers for up to 2 months.
