Sweet potato fries are crispy, flavorful fries made from sweet potatoes and seasoned to perfection. Baked or fried, they’re a delicious alternative to traditional fries—naturally sweet, nutrient-rich, and great with a variety of dips.

Ingredients

  • 23 medium sweet potatoes
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch or arrowroot powder
  • 23 tbsp olive oil (or vegetable oil for frying)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • Optional seasonings: garlic powder, smoked paprika, cayenne, cinnamon
  • Optional dips: chipotle mayo, ketchup, garlic aioli, honey mustard

Instructions

For Baked Sweet Potato Fries:

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cut sweet potatoes into ¼-inch thick sticks.
  3. Toss with cornstarch, then olive oil and seasonings.
  4. Arrange in a single layer with space between fries.
  5. Bake for 15 minutes, flip, and bake another 10–15 minutes until crisp.
  6. Cool for a few minutes before serving.

For Fried Sweet Potato Fries:

  1. Heat oil to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cut sweet potatoes into sticks and soak in cold water for 30 minutes.
  3. Drain, dry, toss with cornstarch, and fry in batches for 3–4 minutes.
  4. Drain on paper towels and season immediately.

Notes

  • For crispier fries, don’t skip the cornstarch—it helps reduce moisture and adds crunch.
  • Space out fries during baking to avoid steaming.
  • For extra flavor, try seasoning after baking with garlic powder or Parmesan cheese.
