4 large sweet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
1/2 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup milk
2 tablespoons butter
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
Salt and pepper, to taste
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
1/2 cup shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese
Fresh thyme or parsley (for garnish)
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
Make sauce: In a saucepan over medium heat, combine cream, milk, butter, garlic powder, onion powder, nutmeg (if using), salt, and pepper. Heat until butter is melted and mixture is warm (do not boil).
Layer: Place half of the sweet potatoes in the dish. Pour half the sauce over them. Add half the Parmesan and shredded cheese. Repeat with remaining potatoes, sauce, and cheese.
Bake covered: Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
Bake uncovered: Remove foil and bake another 20–25 minutes, until potatoes are tender and top is golden brown.
Rest & garnish: Let rest for 5–10 minutes before serving. Garnish with parsley or thyme if desired.&
