Sweet and Sour Dipping Sauce is a glossy, tangy-sweet condiment made with simple pantry ingredients. It delivers the perfect balance of sweetness and acidity, making it ideal for dipping, drizzling, or glazing your favorite dishes.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, combine sugar, rice vinegar, ketchup, soy sauce, garlic powder, and a pinch of salt.
  2. Place over medium heat and stir until the sugar dissolves completely.
  3. In a small bowl, mix cornstarch with water to create a smooth slurry.
  4. Slowly pour the slurry into the saucepan while stirring continuously.
  5. Simmer for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens and becomes glossy.
  6. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly before serving. The sauce will thicken further as it cools.

Notes

  • Add a pinch of red pepper flakes for gentle heat.
  • Use gluten-free soy sauce if needed.
  • Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
  • If the sauce becomes too thick after chilling, gently reheat and add a small splash of water to adjust consistency.
