Steak fries are thick-cut potato wedges that are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, baked to perfection with a simple seasoning blend. They make a delicious and healthier alternative to deep-fried fries, perfect as a side dish or snack.

Ingredients

4 large russet potatoes, peeled (optional) and cut into thick wedges
2 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp smoked paprika (or regular paprika)
Salt and pepper, to taste
Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Optional: grated Parmesan cheese for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. Wash and peel (if desired) the potatoes. Cut each potato in half lengthwise, then cut each half into 3-4 wedges, aiming for uniform thickness.
  3. In a large bowl, toss the potato wedges with olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper until evenly coated.
  4. Arrange the potato wedges in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet, ensuring they are not overlapping.
  5. Bake for 30-35 minutes, flipping the fries halfway through, until they are golden brown and crispy on the edges.
  6. Remove the fries from the oven and let them cool slightly. Garnish with fresh parsley and a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese, if desired.
  7. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauces.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, soak the cut sweet potatoes in cold water for 30 minutes before baking, then pat them dry.
  • For spicy fries, add cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes to the seasoning mix.
  • For a cheesy twist, top the fries with shredded cheddar or mozzarella after baking, and return to the oven for a few minutes to melt.
