Spicy Chicken Wings are a crowd-pleasing appetizer or main dish featuring crispy, juicy wings coated in a fiery, flavorful sauce. Perfect for game days, parties, or casual dinners, they’re easy to make and endlessly customizable to suit your spice level.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs chicken wings (split at the joint, tips removed)
  • 1 tbsp baking powder (if baking)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
  • ½ cup hot sauce (e.g., Frank’s RedHot)
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tbsp honey or brown sugar (optional)
  • Optional garnishes: chopped parsley, green onions, or sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) or heat oil in a deep fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Pat chicken wings dry with paper towels.
  3. If baking, toss wings with baking powder, salt, pepper, garlic powder, paprika, and cayenne pepper.
  4. Arrange wings on a wire rack over a baking sheet. Bake for 40–45 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crispy.
  5. If frying, season wings with salt and pepper and fry in batches for 8–10 minutes until crispy and cooked through. Drain on paper towels.
  6. In a small saucepan, heat hot sauce, melted butter, and honey or sugar (if using) over low heat, stirring to combine.
  7. Toss cooked wings in the sauce until fully coated.
  8. Serve immediately with optional garnishes and your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Baking powder helps create a crispy skin when baking—don’t skip it for oven-baked wings.
  • Use an air fryer for a quicker, lower-fat option (400°F for 25–30 minutes, shaking halfway).
  • Adjust cayenne and hot sauce to control the spice level.
  • For a sweeter profile, increase honey or brown sugar slightly.
  • Serve with ranch, blue cheese dressing, or garlic aioli for dipping.
