Ingredients

1 lb spaghetti

2 tbsp olive oil

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes

1 tsp dried oregano

1 tsp dried basil

1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)

Salt and pepper, to taste

Fresh basil or parsley, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  • Cook the pasta: Bring salted water to a boil in a large pot. Add spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente (8-10 minutes). Drain, reserving 1 cup of pasta water.

  • Prepare the sauce: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

  • Make the marinara sauce: Add crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, and red pepper flakes (if using) to the skillet. Stir and simmer for 10-15 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken. Season with salt and pepper.

  • Combine pasta and sauce: Add the drained spaghetti to the marinara sauce, tossing to coat. If the sauce is too thick, add reserved pasta water to loosen it.

  • Serve: Divide the pasta between plates and garnish with fresh basil or parsley, if desired. Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

  • To add protein, try grilled chicken, shrimp, or meatballs.

  • For extra spice, increase the red pepper flakes or add hot sauce to the sauce.

  • Vegetarian? Add mushrooms, zucchini, or bell peppers to the sauce for extra flavor.

  • Garnish with grated Parmesan, mozzarella, or vegan cheese for a cheesy twist.
