The Smoked Salmon Bagel is a simple yet elegant dish that combines the smoky, rich flavor of salmon with the soft, chewy texture of a bagel. Topped with creamy cream cheese, fresh herbs, and a hint of tangy lemon, this sandwich makes for a perfect breakfast, brunch, or light lunch.

Ingredients

  1. 2 bagels (plain, sesame, or your choice)
    4 oz smoked salmon
    4 tbsp cream cheese
    1 tbsp capers (optional)
    1/4 red onion, thinly sliced
    1 small cucumber, thinly sliced
    Fresh dill, for garnish
    Lemon wedges (for serving)
    Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Begin by slicing the bagels in half.

  1. Toast the bagels lightly until golden brown and crispy on the outside.
  2. Spread about 2 tablespoons of cream cheese on each bagel half, ensuring an even layer.
  3. Layer the smoked salmon on top of the cream cheese, dividing the amount between both bagel halves.
  4. Add the thin slices of red onion and cucumber on top of the salmon.
  5. Garnish with capers and fresh dill.
  6. Squeeze a little lemon juice over the top for a burst of fresh flavor.
  7. Sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste.
  8. Serve immediately with additional lemon wedges on the side.

Notes

  • Avocado Smoked Salmon Bagel: Add a few slices of ripe avocado on top of the smoked salmon for a creamy, buttery texture.
  • Spicy Smoked Salmon Bagel: Add a drizzle of hot sauce or a few red pepper flakes for a spicy twist.
  • Bagel with Eggs: Top the bagel with a scrambled or poached egg for extra protein.
  • Vegan Smoked Salmon Bagel: Use plant-based smoked salmon made from carrots or other vegetables for a vegan version.
  • Herb Cream Cheese: Mix fresh herbs like chives, parsley, or tarragon into the cream cheese for added flavor.
  • Storage: The smoked salmon bagel is best enjoyed fresh. If you have leftovers, store the components (bagels, salmon, and toppings) separately in airtight containers in the refrigerator. The smoked salmon can last for up to 2 days.
  • Reheating: It’s best not to reheat the assembled bagel, as it can make the ingredients soggy. If needed, you can toast the bagel halves again and then reassemble.
