Sautéed Mushrooms are a rich, savory side dish cooked until golden and caramelized. Full of umami flavor, they pair perfectly with steak, chicken, pasta, or toast, and are quick and easy to prepare.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb mushrooms (white button, cremini, or a mix), sliced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (optional)
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley or thyme, chopped (optional)
  • 1 tsp soy sauce or balsamic vinegar (optional)

Instructions

  1. Clean mushrooms using a damp paper towel or soft brush. Slice evenly.
  2. Heat butter and olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. Add mushrooms in a single layer and cook undisturbed for 3–4 minutes.
  4. Stir and continue cooking for another 5–7 minutes until mushrooms are browned and moisture has evaporated.
  5. Add garlic (if using) and sauté for 1 minute.
  6. Optional: add soy sauce or balsamic vinegar and stir to coat.
  7. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  8. Garnish with fresh parsley or thyme and serve hot.

Notes

  • Use a large skillet and avoid overcrowding to ensure mushrooms brown properly.
  • Cook in batches if needed for better texture.
  • Add soy sauce or balsamic for enhanced umami flavor.
  • Great topping for steak, pasta, or toast.
  • Use a mix of mushrooms for more complex flavor.
