Sautéed Cinnamon Apples and Yogurt Toast is a warm and comforting breakfast or snack that combines the sweetness of cinnamon-spiced apples with creamy yogurt and crispy toast. It’s a balanced and nutritious dish that’s perfect for starting your day with flavor and texture.

Ingredients

  1. 2 slices of whole grain bread (or any bread of your choice)
  2. 1 large apple, peeled, cored, and sliced
  3. 1 tablespoon butter (or coconut oil for a dairy-free version)
  4. 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  5. 1 tablespoon maple syrup (or honey)
  6. 1/2 cup Greek yogurt (or dairy-free yogurt)
  7. A pinch of salt
  8. Chopped nuts or seeds (optional, for topping)
  9. Fresh mint or additional cinnamon (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

Toast the bread: Begin by toasting the slices of bread to your desired level of crispiness. You can do this in a toaster or in a skillet over medium heat with a bit of butter or oil. Set aside.

  1. Sauté the cinnamon apples: In a medium skillet, melt the butter (or coconut oil) over medium heat. Add the sliced apples, a pinch of salt, and cinnamon. Stir to coat the apples in the cinnamon and butter. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples are tender but still hold their shape. Add the maple syrup (or honey) and stir to combine. Let the apples cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, allowing the syrup to caramelize slightly.
  2. Assemble the toast: Spread a generous amount of yogurt on each piece of toasted bread. You can add a dollop of yogurt or spread it evenly across the surface.
  3. Top with sautéed apples: Spoon the warm sautéed cinnamon apples onto the yogurt-covered toast. Make sure to drizzle any remaining cinnamon syrup from the pan over the apples for extra flavor.
  4. Optional garnishes: If desired, top with chopped nuts or seeds (such as walnuts, almonds, or chia seeds) for some crunch, or sprinkle with additional cinnamon. A fresh mint leaf can also add a refreshing touch to the dish.
  5. Serve immediately: Enjoy this warm, satisfying toast as a delicious breakfast, brunch, or snack!

Notes

  1. This dish is best enjoyed fresh, but you can prepare the sautéed apples ahead of time and store them in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  2. For a dairy-free version, use coconut or almond yogurt and replace the butter with coconut oil.
  3. Customize this dish by adding extra toppings like granola, berries, or a drizzle of extra syrup.
