Salmon Burgers are a healthy, flavorful alternative to beef burgers, made with fresh or canned salmon, herbs, and seasonings. They’re crispy on the outside, tender inside, and perfect for a light yet satisfying meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb fresh salmon (skinless and boneless) or two 6 oz cans salmon, drained
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs or panko
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped red or green onion
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh dill or parsley
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest or 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (for cooking)
  • 4 burger buns and toppings (lettuce, tomato, avocado, etc., optional)

Instructions

  1. If using fresh salmon, finely chop it or pulse in a food processor. If using canned, drain and flake with a fork.
  2. In a large bowl, combine salmon, breadcrumbs, egg, Dijon mustard, mayonnaise, garlic, onion, herbs, lemon zest or juice, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.
  3. Form mixture into 4 equal patties. If too wet, add more breadcrumbs.
  4. Optional: Refrigerate patties for 15–20 minutes to help them firm up.
  5. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook patties for 3–4 minutes per side until golden and cooked through.
  6. Serve on buns with your choice of toppings, or over salad or in lettuce wraps.

Notes

  • Use canned salmon for convenience, just drain well and remove bones if needed.
  • Chill patties before cooking for better shape retention.
  • To bake, cook at 400°F (200°C) for 12–15 minutes, flipping halfway.
  • Uncooked patties freeze well; thaw before cooking.
