Salmon Burgers are juicy, flavorful patties made from fresh salmon mixed with herbs and seasonings, lightly cooked to tender perfection. They offer a delicious alternative to traditional beef burgers and pair beautifully with fresh toppings and sauces for a satisfying meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb fresh salmon (skin removed, cut into chunks)
  • 1 egg or egg substitute
  • 1/3 cup gluten-free breadcrumbs or almond flour
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh herbs (dill, parsley, or chives)
  • 1 tsp lemon zest
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 12 tbsp olive oil or avocado oil (for cooking)

Instructions

  1. Chop the salmon into small pieces or pulse briefly in a food processor until coarsely ground.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the salmon with egg, breadcrumbs or almond flour, herbs, lemon zest, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix gently to combine.
  3. Form the mixture into 4 evenly sized patties.
  4. Heat a skillet over medium heat and add a thin layer of oil.
  5. Cook the salmon burgers for 3–4 minutes per side, until golden brown and cooked through. Alternatively, grill or air fry at 375°F (190°C) for 10 minutes, flipping halfway.
  6. Remove from heat and let rest briefly before serving on buns or lettuce wraps with desired toppings.

Notes

  • Chilling the patties for 15 minutes before cooking helps them hold their shape better.
  • Use skinless salmon fillets for best results.
  • Top with avocado, red onion, or a dollop of dill yogurt sauce for extra flavor.
  • Double the recipe and freeze extra uncooked patties for quick meals later.
