Perfect for cozy dinners, this rich and flavorful dish pairs beautifully with mashed potatoes or vegetables.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lbs ground beef
  • 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup onion, finely grated or minced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 3/4 cup heavy cream
  • 12 tablespoons prepared horseradish (to taste)
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, grated onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
  2. Shape the mixture into 4 oval patties, about 1/2 inch thick.
  3. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  4. Add the patties and cook for 4–5 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
  5. Pour beef broth into the skillet and scrape up any browned bits from the bottom.
  6. Stir in heavy cream, prepared horseradish, and Dijon mustard. Bring to a gentle simmer.
  7. Add grated Parmesan cheese and stir until the sauce is smooth and slightly thickened.
  8. Return the patties to the skillet and spoon sauce over them.
  9. Simmer for 8–10 minutes until the patties are fully cooked and reach an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C).
  10. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

  • Adjust horseradish to control the level of tang and heat.
  • Avoid overmixing the beef mixture to keep patties tender.
  • Add sautéed mushrooms for extra depth of flavor.
  • Reheat gently with a splash of broth or cream if needed.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days; freezing may slightly alter sauce texture.
