Rutabaga fries are a low-carb, healthy, and flavorful alternative to traditional potato fries. Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, they offer a slightly sweet and earthy flavor that’s perfect for dipping or serving alongside meals.

Ingredients

  1. 1 large rutabaga
    2 tablespoons olive oil
    1 teaspoon garlic powder
    1 teaspoon paprika
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Optional: 1/4 teaspoon dried rosemary or thyme

Instructions

Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat for easy cleanup.

  1. Prepare the rutabaga: Peel the rutabaga and cut it into thin strips, about the size of traditional fries.
  2. Toss with olive oil and seasonings: In a bowl, toss the rutabaga strips with olive oil, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Add optional rosemary or thyme if desired.
  3. Arrange on the baking sheet: Spread the rutabaga strips in a single layer on the baking sheet, making sure they aren’t overlapping.
  4. Bake the fries: Bake for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through. Keep an eye on them, as baking times may vary based on the thickness of your slices. The fries should be golden and crispy.
  5. Serve: Allow the fries to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy them hot with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • For cheesy fries, sprinkle grated parmesan during the last 5 minutes of baking.
  • Add a pinch of cayenne or chili powder for a spicy kick.
  • Try using fresh herbs like thyme or oregano for added flavor.
