Ingredients

  • Butter
  • Chopped semi-sweet chocolate (or chocolate chips)
  • Granulated sugar
  • Eggs
  • Vanilla extract
  • White vinegar
  • Red food coloring (preferably gel)
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • All-purpose flour
  • Salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven and grease or line an 8×8 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt butter and chopped chocolate in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth.
  3. Mix in granulated sugar with an electric mixer on medium speed until well combined.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then add vanilla extract, vinegar, and red food coloring.
  5. In a separate bowl, sift together cocoa powder, flour, and salt.
  6. Gradually fold in the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients until just combined.
  7. If desired, fold in optional mix-ins like white chocolate chips.
  8. Pour batter into prepared pan, smoothing it out evenly.
  9. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out with moist crumbs.
  10. Allow brownies to cool completely in the pan before slicing.

Notes

  • For extra fudgy brownies, avoid overmixing the batter.
  • Gel food coloring yields the best color and consistency.
  • Cream cheese frosting or powdered sugar makes great topping options.
  • You can add mix-ins such as white chocolate chips or chopped nuts for added texture.
