Pickle Fries are crispy, tangy snacks made from battered and fried pickle spears or slices. Perfect as an appetizer or party snack, they deliver a bold, briny crunch and pair beautifully with a variety of dipping sauces.

Ingredients

  • 8 dill pickle spears or thick slices
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk or buttermilk
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs or cornmeal
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Optional dips: ranch, spicy mayo, honey mustard, chipotle aioli

Instructions

  1. Pat the pickle spears or slices dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
  2. Set up a breading station with three bowls: one with seasoned flour (salt, pepper, garlic powder, paprika), one with whisked eggs and milk, and one with panko breadcrumbs or cornmeal.
  3. Dredge each pickle in the flour, then dip in the egg mixture, and coat with breadcrumbs or cornmeal.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Fry pickles in small batches for 2–3 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  6. Serve hot with your choice of dipping sauces.

Notes

  • For a spicier version, add cayenne or chili flakes to the flour mixture.
  • Drying pickles thoroughly helps the coating stick better and prevents splattering.
  • Use pickle chips for bite-sized versions; fry for 1–2 minutes.
  • Try air frying or baking for a lighter alternative.
  • Let breaded pickles rest a few minutes before frying for better adherence.
