With minimal prep and cleanup, this flavorful meal comes together in just 30 minutes, making it the perfect weeknight dinner. The creamy garlic Parmesan sauce brings everything together in a rich harmony.

Ingredients

  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 teaspoon onion powder

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 2 tablespoons butter

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 1/2 cups orzo pasta

  • 3 cups chicken broth

  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (optional)

Instructions

  • Prepare the chicken: Season the chicken pieces with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.

  • Cook the chicken: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the seasoned chicken and cook for 6-7 minutes until golden brown and cooked through. Remove the chicken from the pan and set aside.

  • Sauté the garlic: In the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

  • Cook the orzo: Add the orzo to the skillet and toast for about 1-2 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  • Add the liquid: Pour in the chicken broth and bring the mixture to a simmer. Reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for 10-12 minutes until orzo is tender and most of the liquid is absorbed.

  • Make it creamy: Stir in the heavy cream and Parmesan cheese, mixing until well combined and the sauce is creamy.

  • Return the chicken: Add the cooked chicken back into the pan, stir to combine, and cook for another 2-3 minutes to heat the chicken through.

  • Garnish and serve: Sprinkle with fresh parsley, if desired, and serve immediately

Notes

  • Add vegetables like spinach, mushrooms, or sun-dried tomatoes for a heartier dish.

  • Swap chicken for boneless thighs for a juicier option, or try shrimp for a seafood twist.

  • For a dairy-free version, replace heavy cream with coconut milk or another dairy-free cream, and omit the Parmesan or use dairy-free cheese.

  • Experiment with herbs such as basil, thyme, or rosemary for added flavor.
