Old-Fashioned Hamburger Casserole is a classic comfort food combining seasoned ground beef, creamy sauce, and pasta or potatoes baked to perfection for a hearty family meal.

Ingredients

  1. 1 pound ground beef
    1 small onion, diced
    2 cloves garlic, minced
2 cups cooked pasta (elbow macaroni, rotini, or shells) or diced potatoes
1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
    1/2 cup sour cream
    1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
    1/2 cup milk
    1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
    Salt and pepper to taste
    Optional: chopped parsley for garnish

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef, onion, and garlic until beef is browned and onion is soft. Drain excess fat.
  2. In a bowl, combine cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, milk, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
  3. In a large bowl, mix cooked pasta (or potatoes), beef mixture, sauce, and half of the shredded cheese until well combined.
  4. Transfer mixture to prepared baking dish. Sprinkle remaining cheese evenly over the top.
  5. Bake for 25-30 minutes until bubbly and cheese is melted and golden.
  6. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired and serve warm.

Notes

  1. Add peas, corn, or diced bell peppers for extra nutrition.
  2. Use mozzarella, pepper jack, or cheese blends instead of cheddar.
  3. Substitute pasta with cauliflower rice or spiralized zucchini for low-carb option.
  4. Add diced jalapeños or hot sauce for a spicy kick.
