Mushroom pizza is a savory and satisfying dish made with a crispy crust, rich tomato sauce, and sautéed mushrooms. This simple yet elegant pizza can be customized with different types of mushrooms, cheeses, and toppings, offering a delicious and versatile option for pizza lovers.

Ingredients

  1. 1 pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
    2 tablespoons olive oil
    1/2 onion, thinly sliced (optional)
2 cups mixed mushrooms (cremini, shiitake, button), sliced
    1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
    Salt and pepper, to taste
1/2 cup tomato sauce (homemade or store-bought)
1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese (or vegan cheese for dairy-free option)
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
Fresh basil or parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Red pepper flakes (optional, for a spicy kick)

Instructions

Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the onion (if using) and sauté for 3-4 minutes until softened. Add the sliced mushrooms and cook for 5-7 minutes until browned. Season with garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Set aside.

  1. Preheat the oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven while it preheats.
  2. Roll out the pizza dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness. Transfer the dough to a parchment paper-lined baking sheet or pizza peel.
  3. Spread the tomato sauce evenly on the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Top with sautéed mushrooms and onions. Sprinkle mozzarella and Parmesan cheese on top.
  4. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly. If using a pizza stone, the pizza will cook faster.
  5. Once out of the oven, garnish with fresh basil or parsley and red pepper flakes (if desired). Slice and serve immediately.

Notes

  • For a vegan version, use dairy-free cheese and skip the Parmesan.
  • Try different mushrooms like portobello, chanterelle, or oyster for a more complex flavor.
  • Feel free to add extra toppings like spinach, arugula, olives, artichokes, or roasted garlic.
  • Brush the crust with olive oil before baking for an extra crispy texture.
