A delicious and easy-to-make layered dip with creamy refried beans, sour cream, salsa, and melted cheese, perfect for any gathering or casual meal. It’s customizable with a variety of toppings and served with chips, crackers, or veggies for dipping.

Ingredients

  1. 1 can (16 oz) refried beans
1 packet taco seasoning mix (or homemade seasoning)
    1 cup sour cream
    1 cup guacamole (optional)
1 cup salsa (your favorite kind)
1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (or Mexican cheese blend)
1/2 cup black olives, sliced (optional)
    1/4 cup green onions, chopped
    Fresh cilantro (optional, for garnish)
Tortilla chips, crackers, or veggie sticks for dipping

Instructions

Prepare the refried beans: In a small bowl, mix the refried beans with the taco seasoning. Stir until well combined. You can adjust the seasoning amount based on your preference.

  1. Layer the beans: In a 9×9-inch or similar-sized dish (or a large shallow bowl), spread the seasoned refried beans evenly along the bottom to form the first layer.
  2. Add the sour cream: Spread the sour cream evenly over the layer of refried beans.
  3. Add guacamole (optional): If using, spread the guacamole over the sour cream layer. This adds an extra layer of creaminess and flavor to the dip.
  4. Add the salsa: Spoon the salsa over the guacamole (or sour cream if you’re skipping the guacamole). Make sure it’s spread evenly across the surface.
  5. Top with cheese: Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese (or Mexican cheese blend) evenly over the salsa.
  6. Garnish: Add the sliced black olives and chopped green onions on top for color and extra flavor. If desired, garnish with fresh cilantro for an extra burst of freshness.
  7. Serve: Serve the dip with tortilla chips, crackers, or fresh veggies like celery, carrots, and bell peppers for dipping.

Notes

  • Spicy Version: Add diced jalapeños, a sprinkle of chili flakes, or hot sauce to your salsa layer to give it some heat.
  • Vegetarian Version: Keep the dip meat-free and add additional vegetables like diced tomatoes, bell peppers, or corn for more texture.
  • Meat Lover’s Version: Layer seasoned ground beef, chicken, or chorizo on top of the refried beans for a heartier dip.
  • Cheese Varieties: Use different types of cheese like Monterey Jack, pepper jack, or a blend of cheeses for a different flavor profile.
  • Vegan Version: Use a dairy-free sour cream substitute and vegan cheese to make the dip completely plant-based.
