Jell-O Salad is a colorful, fruity, and creamy dessert salad made with flavored gelatin, fruit, and whipped topping. Fun, nostalgic, and easy to make, it’s a cheerful treat perfect for holidays, potlucks, and family gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 package (6 oz) flavored gelatin (strawberry, lime, or orange)
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup cold water or crushed ice
  • 1 cup canned or fresh fruit (pineapple, mandarin oranges, or strawberries), drained
  • 1 cup whipped topping (Cool Whip) or whipped cream
  • Optional: 4 oz cream cheese, 1/2 cup cottage cheese, 1/2 cup mini marshmallows, or 1/4 cup chopped nuts

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, dissolve the flavored gelatin in boiling water, stirring until fully dissolved.
  2. Add cold water or ice to slightly cool and thicken the mixture.
  3. Fold in the drained fruit, marshmallows, nuts, or other desired ingredients.
  4. If making a creamy version, gently fold in whipped topping, whipped cream, or softened cream cheese once the mixture has cooled slightly.
  5. Pour into a serving dish or gelatin mold and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or until fully set.
  6. To serve, unmold onto a serving plate if desired, or serve directly from the dish. Garnish with extra whipped topping or fruit.

Notes

  • Make sure fruit is well drained to prevent the gelatin from becoming watery.
  • Avoid using raw pineapple, kiwi, or papaya — their enzymes prevent gelatin from setting.
  • To easily unmold, dip the mold in warm water for 10–15 seconds and invert onto a plate.
  • For a layered look, let each gelatin layer set before adding the next.
  • Best served chilled; do not freeze as it ruins the texture.
