Italian Mushrooms are a flavorful dish combining earthy mushrooms with garlic, olive oil, and Italian herbs, making them a perfect side dish, appetizer, or topping for pasta and pizza.

Ingredients

  1. 1 lb fresh mushrooms (button or cremini)
  2. 3 tbsp olive oil
  3. 2 garlic cloves, minced
  4. 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  5. 1/2 tsp dried basil
  6. 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional, for some heat)
  7. Salt and pepper, to taste
  8. 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  9. 1 tbsp Parmesan cheese, grated (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

Clean the mushrooms with a damp paper towel to remove any dirt. Slice them into even pieces.

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, add the garlic and cook for about 1 minute, until fragrant.
  2. Add the sliced mushrooms to the skillet and sauté for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they release their moisture and become golden brown.
  3. Sprinkle the oregano, basil, and red pepper flakes (if using) over the mushrooms. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Continue to cook for another 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to combine and the mushrooms to caramelize slightly.
  5. Remove from heat and transfer to a serving dish. Garnish with fresh parsley and a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese if desired.
  6. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  1. For a variation, add fresh spinach during the last 2 minutes of cooking for added color and nutrition.
  2. For a richer flavor, swap olive oil for butter and add an extra garlic clove.
  3. A splash of balsamic vinegar can be added for a tangy sweetness in the last minute of cooking.
  4. Store leftover mushrooms in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
  5. Reheat in a skillet or microwave before serving.
