Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 ¾ cups buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven – Set oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients – In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add Buttermilk – Gradually stir in the buttermilk until a rough dough forms.
  4. Shape the Dough – Turn onto a floured surface, gently shape into a round loaf, and avoid over-kneading.
  5. Score the Top – Cut a deep cross on top with a sharp knife to help with even baking.
  6. Bake – Place on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 30-40 minutes until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.
  7. Cool and Serve – Let cool on a wire rack before slicing and serving.
