A rich, savory, and perfectly textured hot dog chili made with seasoned ground beef and tomato sauce, designed specifically for topping hot dogs.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 (8-ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1/4 cup finely minced onion
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, add the ground beef. Break it apart with a spoon and cook until fully browned.
  2. Drain excess grease if necessary for a smoother texture.
  3. Add finely minced onion and garlic to the pan. Cook for 2–3 minutes until softened.
  4. Stir in the tomato sauce, ketchup, and yellow mustard.
  5. Add chili powder, paprika, brown sugar, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.
  6. Pour in the water to create a thinner, saucy consistency.
  7. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened but still spoonable.
  8. Taste and adjust seasoning as desired. Serve warm over hot dogs.

Notes

  • For a smoother texture, mash the beef finely while cooking.
  • Add a splash of water while reheating if the chili thickens too much.
  • Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • Freeze for up to 3 months in a freezer-safe container.
  • This chili is traditionally bean-free for the best hot dog topping consistency.
