Homemade Alfredo Sauce is a creamy, cheesy, and indulgent pasta sauce made with butter, cream, and Parmesan. Ready in just minutes, it’s far superior to store-bought and perfect for fettuccine, chicken, or casseroles.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced (optional)
  • 1 1/2 cups freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 tsp salt (or to taste)
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • Pinch of nutmeg (optional)
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
  2. Add garlic (if using) and sauté for 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. Pour in heavy cream and bring to a gentle simmer, stirring constantly.
  4. Lower heat and whisk in Parmesan cheese gradually until smooth and melted.
  5. Season with salt, pepper, and nutmeg if using.
  6. Stir over low heat for 3–5 minutes until slightly thickened.
  7. Remove from heat and serve immediately over pasta or other dishes. Garnish with parsley if desired.

Notes

  • Use freshly grated Parmesan for the smoothest texture.
  • Keep heat low when adding cheese to avoid graininess.
  • Half-and-half can be substituted for heavy cream for a lighter sauce.
  • Mix in Romano or Asiago cheese for extra flavor.
  • Best served fresh, but leftovers can be reheated gently with added milk or cream.
