Hawaiian Roll French Toast is a deliciously sweet and fluffy twist on classic French toast. Made with soft Hawaiian rolls soaked in a rich cinnamon-vanilla custard, this breakfast favorite is quick, easy, and perfect for a weekend brunch or holiday morning. Serve it with maple syrup, powdered sugar, or your favorite toppings for a delightful treat!

Ingredients

  • 12 Hawaiian rolls
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup milk
  • ¼ cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons butter (for cooking)
  • Maple syrup (for serving)
  • Powdered sugar (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Rolls – If the Hawaiian rolls are not pre-cut, slice them in half.
  • Make the Custard – In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, vanilla extract, and cinnamon.
  • Dip the Rolls – Quickly dip each roll into the custard mixture, ensuring it’s coated but not oversaturated.
  • Cook the French Toast – Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat and melt a bit of butter. Cook each roll for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown.
  • Serve Warm – Remove from heat and serve with maple syrup, powdered sugar, or your favorite toppings.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, stuff the rolls with cream cheese, Nutella, or fruit preserves before dipping.
  • To make it crispy, use slightly stale rolls or toast them lightly before dipping.
  • To bake instead of pan-fry, arrange on a baking sheet and bake at 375°F for 10-15 minutes, flipping halfway.
