Ingredients

For the Mashed Potatoes:

  • 2 pounds potatoes, peeled and quartered
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

For the Ground Beef and Gravy:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Instructions

Prepare the Mashed Potatoes:

  1. Place the potatoes in a large pot and cover with cold water. Add a pinch of salt.
  2. Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce to a simmer. Cook for about 20 minutes until fork-tender.
  3. Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add butter and milk. Mash until smooth and creamy. Season with salt and black pepper. Cover to keep warm.

Prepare the Ground Beef and Gravy:

  1. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat.
  2. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Cook for about 5 minutes until the onion is soft.
  3. Sprinkle flour over the beef mixture, stirring continuously. Cook for 2 minutes.
  4. Slowly pour in beef broth while stirring to prevent lumps. Add Worcestershire sauce. Simmer for about 5 minutes until thickened. Season with salt and black pepper.

Assemble the Dish:

  1. Serve mashed potatoes on plates and spoon the ground beef gravy over the top.
  2. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired.
