The Grinder Salad Sandwich combines deli meats, melty cheese, and a creamy chopped salad all piled inside a toasted hoagie roll. It’s crunchy, savory, and bursting with bold flavor — perfect for lunch, dinner, or sharing with friends.

Ingredients

  • 4 hoagie rolls or sub sandwich buns
  • 8 slices salami
  • 8 slices turkey
  • 8 slices ham
  • 8 slices pepperoni
  • 8 slices provolone or mozzarella cheese
  • 2 cups shredded iceberg lettuce
  • 1/2 red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup banana peppers, sliced
  • 1 cup chopped tomatoes

Dressing:

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 clove garlic, minced (or 1/2 tsp garlic powder)
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Slice hoagie rolls lengthwise (don’t cut all the way through) and toast in the oven until golden brown.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, red wine vinegar, olive oil, garlic, oregano, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper to make the dressing.
  3. Add shredded lettuce, red onion, banana peppers, and chopped tomatoes to the bowl. Toss until well coated in the dressing.
  4. Layer deli meats and cheese slices into each toasted hoagie roll.
  5. Top generously with the dressed salad mixture.
  6. Close the sandwich, slice in half, and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Customize the sandwich with different meats or cheeses to your preference.
  • Toast the sandwich with just the meat and cheese first for extra melty goodness.
  • Make the salad ahead of time, but assemble the sandwich just before serving to keep the bread crisp.
