Grape pie is a unique and delicious dessert featuring sweet, juicy grapes in a spiced, tangy filling, nestled inside a flaky, buttery crust. Ideal for family gatherings or any special occasion, this pie combines the natural sweetness of grapes with cinnamon and nutmeg for a comforting and unexpected treat. Whether served warm or chilled, it’s perfect with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups fresh seedless red or black grapes

  • 3/4 cup sugar

  • 1/4 cup cornstarch

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

  • 1 tablespoon butter, cut into small pieces

  • 1 package of refrigerated pie crusts (or homemade)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. Wash the grapes thoroughly, removing any stems, and pat them dry with a towel.

  3. In a large bowl, combine the grapes, sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Stir to coat the grapes evenly.

  4. Roll out one of the pie crusts and fit it into a 9-inch pie dish. Pour the grape mixture into the pie crust, spreading it out evenly.

  5. Dot the filling with small pieces of butter.

  6. Roll out the second pie crust and place it over the pie. Trim any excess dough, then crimp the edges to seal the pie.

  7. Cut a few slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape during baking.

  8. Bake the pie for 45-50 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.

  9. Let the pie cool for at least 2 hours before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • For a more complex flavor, try adding a few tablespoons of tart fruit like cranberries or increasing the lemon juice.

  • This pie can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

  • For a vegan version, substitute the butter with a plant-based alternative and ensure the pie crust is dairy-free.
