Gnocchi with Lemon-Parmesan Sauce is a bright and comforting dish featuring pillowy potato gnocchi tossed in a silky cream sauce with fresh lemon and savory Parmesan. Rich yet refreshing, it comes together quickly for an elegant weeknight meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound potato gnocchi
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon lemon zest
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (optional)

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the gnocchi according to package instructions. Once they float, cook for 1–2 minutes more, then drain.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. Pour in the heavy cream and bring to a gentle simmer. Cook for 3–4 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese until melted and smooth.
  5. Add lemon zest and lemon juice, then season with salt and black pepper.
  6. Add the cooked gnocchi to the skillet and gently toss to coat evenly in the sauce.
  7. Simmer for 1–2 minutes until heated through.
  8. Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.

Notes

  • Sauté cooked gnocchi in olive oil before adding to the sauce for a lightly crispy texture.
  • Add baby spinach, peas, or asparagus for extra color and nutrition.
  • Mix in grilled chicken, shrimp, or crispy pancetta for added protein.
  • Substitute half-and-half for a lighter sauce.
  • Add a pinch of red pepper flakes for subtle heat.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat gently with a splash of milk or cream to loosen the sauce.
