German Chocolate Poke Cake is a rich and ultra-moist dessert infused with caramel, coconut, and pecans. This easy-to-make cake starts with a German chocolate cake mix, then gets drenched in sweetened condensed milk and caramel sauce for an irresistibly gooey texture. Topped with whipped topping, shredded coconut, and chopped pecans, it’s the perfect indulgence for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 1 box German chocolate cake mix (plus ingredients required on the box)
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup caramel sauce
  • 1 cup sweetened shredded coconut
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 tub (8 oz) whipped topping (such as Cool Whip)
  • Chocolate syrup (optional, for drizzling)

Instructions

  • Bake the Cake – Prepare and bake the German chocolate cake in a 9×13-inch pan according to package instructions.
  • Poke Holes – Once slightly cooled, use the handle of a wooden spoon to poke holes all over the cake.
  • Add Sweetness – Pour the sweetened condensed milk and caramel sauce over the cake, letting it seep into the holes.
  • Top with Coconut and Pecans – Evenly sprinkle shredded coconut and chopped pecans over the cake.
  • Chill – Let the cake cool completely, then spread the whipped topping evenly on top.
  • Garnish – Drizzle with chocolate syrup if desired. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer taste, use homemade caramel sauce.
  • Swap pecans for walnuts, almonds, or omit them for a nut-free version.
  • Letting the cake sit overnight enhances its flavors.
  • Serve chilled for the best texture
