Fudgy Homemade Brownies are rich, dense, and deeply chocolatey with crackly tops and gooey centers, made easily from simple pantry ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  2. Whisk melted butter and sugar together until smooth and well combined.
  3. Add eggs and vanilla extract, mixing until fully incorporated.
  4. Stir in cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  5. Fold in chocolate chips if using.
  6. Spread batter evenly into the prepared pan.
  7. Bake for 20–25 minutes until edges are set and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with moist crumbs.
  8. Allow brownies to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

  • Store at room temperature in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
  • Freeze tightly wrapped for up to 3 months.
  • Add nuts, espresso powder, or swirl-ins for variation.
  • Slightly underbake for extra gooey brownies.
