Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup eggnog
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons eggnog (for frosting)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • Ground nutmeg, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, beat butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add egg yolks, vanilla extract, and eggnog. Mix until combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until a soft dough forms.
  6. Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough onto prepared baking sheets, spacing them 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake for 10–12 minutes, until edges are set and tops appear slightly golden. Do not overbake.
  8. Cool cookies completely on a wire rack before frosting.
  9. For the frosting, beat butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, then mix in eggnog and vanilla until smooth and spreadable.
  10. Frost the cooled cookies and sprinkle lightly with ground nutmeg before serving.

  • Use full-fat eggnog for the richest flavor and creamiest texture.
  • Do not overbake — these cookies are meant to stay soft and cake-like.
