Fried cheese balls are crispy, golden bites filled with melty, gooey cheese. Perfect as a snack, appetizer, or party food, they’re made from a cheese mixture rolled into balls, breaded, and deep-fried to perfection.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a blend)
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese (optional, for creamier texture)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (plain or seasoned)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder or paprika (optional)
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Dipping sauce (marinara, ranch, spicy mayo, etc.)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine shredded cheese, cream cheese (if using), salt, pepper, and optional spices.
  2. Roll the mixture into 1-inch balls and place on a tray. Freeze for 15–20 minutes until firm.
  3. Prepare a breading station: flour in one bowl, beaten eggs in another, and breadcrumbs in a third.
  4. Roll each cheese ball in flour, then egg, then breadcrumbs. For extra crunch, repeat the egg and breadcrumb steps.
  5. Heat oil in a deep skillet or saucepan to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Fry cheese balls in batches for 2–3 minutes, until golden brown and crisp.
  7. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  8. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Chill the cheese balls before frying to help them hold their shape.
  • Double-coat with egg and breadcrumbs to prevent cheese leakage.
  • Use a mix of cheeses for best flavor and meltability.
  • Don’t overcrowd the pan when frying—work in batches.
  • Serve immediately for maximum crispiness and gooeyness.
