Ingredients

  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (for breading)
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs or panko
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Fresh herbs or dipping sauce, for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix shredded cheese with 2 tablespoons of flour, cornstarch (if using), salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  2. Form small balls using your hands or a scoop.
  3. Place the cheese balls on a tray and chill in the freezer for 20–30 minutes to firm up.
  4. Set up a breading station with one bowl of flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with breadcrumbs.
  5. Roll each chilled cheese ball in flour, dip in egg, and coat in breadcrumbs.
  6. Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Fry cheese balls in batches for 2–3 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  9. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Chilling is essential to prevent cheese from leaking while frying.
  • Mix different cheeses for varied flavor.
  • Double coat for an extra crispy crust.
  • Use panko for more crunch.
  • Air fry for a lighter alternative.
