French Dip Sliders are mini sandwiches filled with tender roast beef and melted cheese on soft slider rolls, baked with a seasoned butter topping and served with warm au jus for dipping.

Ingredients

  • 12 slider rolls or Hawaiian rolls
  • 1 lb thinly sliced roast beef (deli-style or leftover)
  • 68 slices provolone or Swiss cheese
  • 1/2 onion, thinly sliced and sautéed (optional)
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp dried thyme or Italian seasoning
  • 1 1/2 cups beef broth (for au jus)
  • Optional: horseradish sauce or Dijon mustard

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease or line a baking dish with parchment paper.
  2. Slice the slider rolls in half horizontally without separating individual rolls. Place the bottoms in the baking dish.
  3. Layer sliced roast beef evenly over the bottom half of the rolls.
  4. Top with sautéed onions, if using, then add slices of cheese over the beef.
  5. Place the top half of the rolls on top to complete the sliders.
  6. In a saucepan, melt the butter and stir in garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, and dried thyme.
  7. Brush the butter mixture evenly over the tops of the rolls.
  8. Cover with foil and bake for 15 minutes. Uncover and bake for an additional 5 minutes until golden brown.
  9. While sliders bake, heat beef broth and a splash of Worcestershire sauce in a small saucepan to make au jus. Simmer until warmed through.
  10. Serve sliders hot with au jus on the side for dipping.

Notes

  • Use Hawaiian rolls for a slightly sweet contrast to the savory filling.
  • To avoid soggy bottoms, don’t overload with wet ingredients and bake just before serving.
  • Assemble ahead and refrigerate until ready to bake.
  • Au jus can be made from scratch or with a store-bought mix.
