Easy pretzel dessert bars combine a crunchy, salty pretzel crust with creamy, sweet layers for the perfect no-fuss treat. Customizable and crowd-pleasing, they’re great for potlucks, parties, or a simple make-ahead dessert.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups crushed pretzels
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar (divided)
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 8 oz whipped topping (like Cool Whip), thawed
  • Optional layers: 1 box chocolate pudding mix (prepared), 1/2 cup melted chocolate, 1/2 cup peanut butter, fruit topping, or caramel sauce
  • Optional toppings: chopped nuts, crushed pretzels, mini chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) if baking the crust.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix crushed pretzels, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, and melted butter until well combined.
  3. Press mixture firmly into the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish. Bake for 8–10 minutes or chill for 30 minutes for a no-bake crust. Let cool completely.
  4. In a separate bowl, beat cream cheese, remaining 1/2 cup granulated sugar (or use 1 cup powdered sugar instead), until smooth.
  5. Fold in whipped topping until fluffy and fully incorporated.
  6. Spread cream cheese mixture evenly over cooled crust.
  7. Add any optional layer like pudding, melted chocolate, or peanut butter and spread evenly.
  8. Top with additional whipped topping and desired toppings like crushed pretzels, mini chocolate chips, or nuts.
  9. Chill for at least 2 hours until fully set. Slice into bars and serve chilled.

Notes

  • Use full-fat cream cheese for best texture and flavor.
  • Chill the crust for no-bake option or bake it for more structure.
  • Homemade whipped cream can be substituted for whipped topping.
  • Customize with layers of chocolate, peanut butter, or fruit toppings.
  • Use gluten-free pretzels for a gluten-free version.
