Easy Biscuits and Gravy is a hearty Southern-inspired breakfast featuring warm, flaky biscuits smothered in creamy sausage gravy. It’s a comforting, flavor-packed dish that’s simple enough for weekday mornings but indulgent enough for brunch or special occasions.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb breakfast sausage
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 tsp salt (to taste)
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper (to taste)
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • 8 biscuits (homemade or store-bought)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, cook the sausage over medium heat, breaking it apart with a spoon as it browns.
  2. Once cooked through, do not drain the fat—it helps flavor the gravy.
  3. Sprinkle the flour evenly over the sausage and stir to coat. Cook for 1 minute to remove the raw flour taste.
  4. Gradually pour in the milk while stirring constantly to prevent lumps.
  5. Continue to cook and stir for 5–7 minutes until the gravy thickens.
  6. Season with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder if desired. Adjust seasoning to taste.
  7. Split warm biscuits in half and ladle the sausage gravy generously over the top.
  8. Serve hot and enjoy.

Notes

  • Use spicy sausage or add cayenne pepper for extra heat.
  • Add a splash of milk when reheating to maintain a creamy consistency.
  • For a vegetarian version, substitute sausage with sautéed mushrooms or plant-based sausage.
  • Store-bought biscuits make this recipe quick and easy.
  • Pair with eggs or hash browns for a full Southern breakfast.
