These Easiest Cinnamon Buttermilk Beignets are fluffy, golden pillows of fried dough with a warm cinnamon flavor. Quick to make and yeast-free, they’re perfect for breakfast, brunch, or dessert.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine the buttermilk, egg, vanilla extract, and melted butter.
  3. Gradually stir the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until a soft dough forms.
  4. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently knead until smooth.
  5. Roll out the dough to about ½ inch thickness and cut into small squares or rectangles.
  6. Heat oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Fry the beignets in batches until golden brown on both sides, about 2 minutes per side.
  8. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  9. Dust generously with powdered sugar while warm.
  10. Serve immediately for the best texture and flavor.

Notes

  • Add a pinch of nutmeg or cardamom for a deeper spice profile.
  • Use brown sugar instead of granulated sugar for a caramelized taste.
  • Drizzle with glaze for extra sweetness.
  • Mix in mini chocolate chips for a dessert twist.
  • Serve with fruit preserves or chocolate sauce for dipping.
