Crispy Air Fryer Jicama Fries are a lighter, gluten-free alternative to traditional French fries. Made from jicama, they turn golden and crisp outside while staying tender inside, with minimal oil.

Ingredients

  • 1 medium jicama, peeled and cut into fry shapes
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or avocado oil
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • Optional: 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • Optional: 1/4 tsp paprika
  • Optional: 1/4 tsp chili powder
  • Optional: 1/4 tsp dried herbs (oregano, thyme, etc.)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Peel and cut the jicama into sticks resembling traditional French fries.
  3. Pat the jicama sticks dry with paper towels to remove moisture.
  4. Toss jicama in a bowl with oil, salt, pepper, and any optional seasonings.
  5. Arrange fries in a single layer in the air fryer basket, working in batches if needed.
  6. Air fry for 15–20 minutes, shaking the basket or flipping fries halfway through.
  7. Cook until fries are golden brown and crispy on the edges.
  8. Remove from the air fryer, season with extra salt if desired, and serve warm.

Notes

  • Drying the jicama thoroughly helps it crisp up better.
  • Use minimal oil to avoid soggy fries.
  • Do not overcrowd the air fryer for even cooking.
  • Experiment with seasonings for different flavor variations.
