Creamy Parmesan Chicken Pasta is a comforting, restaurant-quality dish featuring tender chicken, perfectly cooked pasta, and a rich, velvety Parmesan cream sauce that comes together in just 30 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 12 ounces penne or fettuccine pasta
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper (or to taste)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cook the pasta in salted water according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve 1/2 cup pasta water, then drain and set aside.
  2. Season the chicken with salt, black pepper, and Italian seasoning.
  3. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook the chicken for 5–7 minutes per side until golden brown and fully cooked (internal temperature 165°F). Remove and let rest, then slice into strips.
  4. In the same skillet, sauté minced garlic for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  5. Add chicken broth and heavy cream. Bring to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally.
  6. Stir in grated Parmesan cheese gradually until melted and the sauce thickens. Add reserved pasta water as needed to adjust consistency.
  7. Add the cooked pasta to the skillet and toss to coat evenly in the sauce.
  8. Return sliced chicken to the pan and gently combine.
  9. Garnish with chopped parsley and additional Parmesan if desired.
  10. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Freshly grated Parmesan melts more smoothly than pre-shredded cheese.
  • Add spinach or mushrooms for extra flavor and texture.
  • Use rotisserie chicken for quicker preparation.
  • Simmer longer or add extra Parmesan to thicken the sauce.
  • Add a splash of milk or broth when reheating to loosen the sauce.
  • Freezing is not recommended as cream sauces may separate.
