The Cream Cheese Grilled Cheese Sandwich is a rich, indulgent twist on a classic favorite. Featuring a blend of smooth cream cheese and melty cheddar between crispy, buttery bread, this quick meal is perfect for breakfast, lunch, or late-night cravings.

Ingredients

  1. 4 slices bread (white, sourdough, or whole grain)
  2. 4 tbsp cream cheese, softened
  3. 1 cup shredded or 4 slices of cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or preferred)
  4. 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  5. Optional: garlic powder, chopped herbs, or sliced tomatoes

Instructions

Preheat a skillet or griddle over medium heat.

  1. Spread softened cream cheese on one side of each bread slice.
  2. Top one cream cheese-coated slice with shredded or sliced cheese and any optional add-ins like herbs or tomatoes.
  3. Place another slice of bread on top, cream cheese side in, to make a sandwich.
  4. Spread butter on the outside of each sandwich slice.
  5. Grill in the skillet for 3–4 minutes per side, pressing gently, until golden brown and cheese is melted.
  6. Remove from heat, let rest for 1 minute, then slice and serve warm.

Notes

  • Use full-fat cream cheese for the creamiest texture.
  • Flavored cream cheese (like chive or veggie) adds extra depth.
  • Don’t overcrowd the skillet to ensure even browning.
  • Use a panini press for even melting and crispness.
