Couscous is a light and fluffy semolina-based dish that comes together in just minutes. Its mild flavor and tender texture make it a versatile base for vegetables, meats, and Mediterranean-inspired meals.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup couscous
  • 1 cup water or vegetable broth
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon (optional)

Instructions

  1. Bring the water or vegetable broth to a boil in a small saucepan.
  2. Stir in the olive oil or butter and salt.
  3. Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the couscous.
  4. Cover with a lid and let sit for 5 minutes to absorb the liquid.
  5. Fluff the couscous gently with a fork to separate the grains.
  6. Stir in fresh parsley and lemon juice if desired, then serve.

Notes

  • Use broth instead of water for deeper flavor.
  • Lightly toast couscous in olive oil before adding liquid for a nuttier taste.
  • Add sautéed onions, garlic, or toasted nuts for extra texture.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
  • Reheat with a splash of water or broth to restore moisture.
