These homemade Costco Double Chocolate Muffins are moist, rich, and loaded with cocoa and chocolate chips. Perfectly soft and jumbo-sized, they’re just like the bakery-style favorites—ideal for breakfast, dessert, or snack time.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups chocolate chips or chunks (plus more for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line or grease a standard or jumbo muffin tin.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk eggs, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.
  4. Add sour cream, milk, oil, and vanilla. Stir until well combined.
  5. Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined—do not overmix.
  6. Stir in chocolate chips, reserving some for the tops.
  7. Divide batter evenly among muffin cups, filling about 3/4 full. Top with reserved chocolate chips.
  8. Bake for 20–25 minutes for standard muffins or 25–30 minutes for jumbo muffins, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  9. Let cool in the pan for 5–10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add 1 tsp espresso powder to the batter.
  • Use Dutch-processed cocoa for a deeper chocolate taste.
  • Muffins freeze well—wrap individually and store up to 2 months.
