Coconut Hot Chocolate is a rich, creamy beverage that blends velvety chocolate with the smooth, tropical flavor of coconut milk. Naturally dairy-free and indulgent, it’s the perfect cozy drink for cold nights or whenever you crave something sweet and soothing with a hint of island flair.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups full-fat or light coconut milk
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 oz dark or semisweet chocolate, chopped
  • 2 tbsp sugar, maple syrup, or honey
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Whipped coconut cream (optional, for topping)
  • Shredded coconut or chocolate shavings (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, whisk together cocoa powder, sugar, and a few tablespoons of coconut milk over medium heat to form a smooth paste.
  2. Gradually add the remaining coconut milk, whisking until combined.
  3. Stir in chopped chocolate and salt, whisking until melted and smooth.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Taste and adjust sweetness as desired.
  6. Pour into mugs and top with whipped coconut cream.
  7. Garnish with shredded coconut or chocolate shavings before serving.

Notes

  • Full-fat coconut milk gives the creamiest result, but light coconut milk also works well.
  • Use vegan chocolate and maple syrup for a completely plant-based version.
  • Add cinnamon or chili powder for a spiced variation.
  • For an iced version, chill and serve over ice.
  • Use a milk frother for an extra-smooth and foamy texture.
