Classic Tiramisu is a no-bake Italian dessert made with layers of espresso-soaked ladyfingers and rich mascarpone cream, dusted with cocoa powder. Elegant and indulgent, it’s perfect for holidays, dinner parties, or any special occasion.

Ingredients

  • 6 egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 (8 oz) container mascarpone cheese
  • 1 1/2 cups brewed espresso or strong coffee (cooled)
  • 2 tablespoons coffee liqueur (optional)
  • 1 (7 oz) package ladyfinger cookies (savoiardi)
  • 23 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. In a heatproof bowl, whisk egg yolks and sugar. Place over simmering water and whisk constantly for 5–7 minutes until thickened. Remove and cool.
  2. In another bowl, whip heavy cream to stiff peaks.
  3. Gently mix mascarpone in a large bowl to soften. Fold in the cooled egg mixture, then fold in the whipped cream.
  4. In a shallow dish, mix cooled espresso with liqueur (if using).
  5. Dip each ladyfinger quickly (1–2 seconds) into coffee and line the bottom of a 9×9-inch dish.
  6. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the cookies. Repeat with another layer of dipped ladyfingers and remaining cream.
  7. Cover and refrigerate for at least 6 hours or overnight.
  8. Dust with cocoa powder just before serving.

Notes

  • Use decaf coffee for a kid-friendly version.
  • To make ahead, prepare up to 2 days in advance and keep refrigerated.
  • Do not freeze, as texture may change.
