Chocolate Salami is a no-bake European dessert log made from chocolate, crushed biscuits, and nuts, shaped to resemble a traditional salami. It’s rich, chewy, crunchy, and perfect for gifting or entertaining.

Ingredients

  • 200g dark or semi-sweet chocolate
  • 100g unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar or powdered sugar
  • 1 egg (or 23 tbsp milk or cream for no-egg version)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 200g tea biscuits, digestive cookies, or graham crackers (crushed)
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts, or pistachios)
  • Optional: 1 tbsp cocoa powder
  • Optional: 1–2 tbsp rum or liqueur
  • Optional: 1/4 cup chopped dried fruits (like cherries, dates, or figs)
  • Powdered sugar (for coating)

Instructions

  1. Melt chocolate and butter together in a heatproof bowl over simmering water or microwave in short bursts. Stir until smooth.
  2. Remove from heat and stir in sugar and vanilla extract.
  3. Let cool slightly, then whisk in the egg (or substitute with milk/cream for no-egg version).
  4. Fold in crushed biscuits, chopped nuts, and optional dried fruit or liqueur.
  5. Allow the mixture to cool until it firms slightly but remains pliable.
  6. Transfer to parchment or plastic wrap. Shape into a log, wrap tightly, and twist the ends.
  7. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or until firm.
  8. Unwrap and roll in powdered sugar. Slice into rounds and serve.

Notes

  • Use pasteurized eggs or skip the egg entirely for a safer version.
  • Customize with your favorite nuts, liqueurs, or dried fruits.
  • Let sit at room temperature for 10 minutes before slicing for cleaner cuts.
  • Ideal for gifting during the holidays—wrap in parchment and tie with string for a rustic look.
