A rich, decadent chocolate cake with a molten center, perfectly portioned for two, offering a tender exterior and warm, gooey chocolate inside.

Ingredients

  • 4 oz dark chocolate
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Powdered sugar (optional, for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease two small ramekins with butter and lightly dust with flour or cocoa powder.
  2. Melt the dark chocolate and butter together in a heatproof bowl over simmering water until smooth. Remove from heat and cool slightly.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk eggs, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until pale and slightly thickened.
  4. Gently fold in the melted chocolate mixture.
  5. Sift the flour over the mixture and fold until just combined.
  6. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared ramekins.
  7. Bake for 10–12 minutes, until the edges are set but the centers remain soft.
  8. Allow to rest 1–2 minutes, then carefully invert onto serving plates.
  9. Dust with powdered sugar if desired and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Serve immediately to enjoy the molten center.
  • Optional flavor additions include espresso powder, liqueur, or finely chopped nuts.
  • Mini ovenproof dishes can be used if ramekins are unavailable, adjusting baking time as needed.
  • Accompany with ice cream, whipped cream, or fresh berries for added indulgence.
